Abhimanyu annihilates Kaurava forces:Ībhimanyu caused massive destruction to the Kaurava army. Jayadratha, an evil debauched king from Sindh then effectively blocked the path behind Abhimanyu so as to keep the Pandavas out.

Now Abhimanyu knew from his mother's womb as to how to breach various types of Chakravyuhs such as Makaravyoha, Kurmavyooha, Sarpavyuha etc and accordingly he began breaking into the formation in an impressive manner.
The Pandavas decided to back Abhimanyu into the Chakravyuh and take on the Kuru might. On the other hand, the Chakravyuh formation turned so lethal that it threatened to swallow the entire Pandava army. Now cut to the 13th day of Kurukshetra battle. Dronacharya out a plan into action on the battlefield such that Arjuna and his charioteer Lord Krishna were diverted to another faraway part of the battlefield, chasing the Samasaptakas. It is said he deliberately interrupted that conversation between Arjuna and Subhadra. Abhimanyu was 16 and Lord Krishna knew there were practical decisions and choices that lay ahead. Now Dronacharya was fighting on the sides of the Kauravas and the Chakravyuh was sure to come into play. Abhimanyu had heard and imbibed only the entry part of it, the crucial part of escape was missing. So, effectively, only two people in the Universe knew how to breach the Chakravyuh that Guru Dronacharya was expert at creating. It is said that Lord Krishna took Arjuna for a discussion immediately after and Arjuna never got to completing that narration in peacetime. She dozed off only as Arjuna began to narrate how to come out of a Chakravyuh alive and unharmed. Thus, when Krishna's half-sister Subhadra - pregnant with Abhimanyu in her womb - was listening to Arjuna's narration of how to break into a Chakravyuh (circular maze) formation in a battle, she fell asleep at a very inopportune time. The narration he heard from inside his mother's womb: Whatever the mission, it had to be wrapped up in 16 years of his life because that is all the duration his father could bear to be separated from him. Since Lord Vishnu wanted him to be born on Earth in the Kuru bloodline as he had a significant role to play in Mahabharat and in particular the Kurukshetra war - Chandra Devtaa allowed him a 16-year-sojourn on Earth.
Abhimanyu - the son of Arjun and Subhadra - was actually the Moon God Chandra's son Varchas reincarnate. After his death, Abhimanyu returned to his father Chandra or the Moon God as his son Varchas who had taken birth as Arjuna and Subhadra's son and lived for 16 years.
